Differences...

#1 Unread post by Wrider »

So Friday I rode a friend's Gixxer 600 home for him as he was currently incapacitated (read: tossed in the drunk tank). I got on it slowly, getting used to the RPMs and such. Then I decided to have a little fun.

Differences between different vehicles at 100 MPH

1992 Isuzu Pickup
- Wow! It's possible! No... *Looks at speedometer* Yep!, it's possible! Poor little thing is maxed out, I'm in 5th, foot is buried in the floor, and I'm doing 100... Incredible!

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
- Holy crap, I think it's about to shake apart! Wow, that sign post just flew by REALLY REALLY fast!

1997 Toyota Camry
- Woo hoooooo!!! Wow, has a bit of tire shake at this speed, but wow, this is fun! And it's still got some left! *Hits 110, sees cop in the distance, and slows down to perfectly legal 75 MPH.*

2004 Dodge Intrepid SE
- Huh, wonder how fast I'm HOLY COW I'M GOING A LOT FASTER THAN I THOUGHT I WAS!!! Wow, this thing is amazingly able to accelerate! I wonder... *Punches gas* Car downshifts to 3rd (automatic), accelerates to 112, and promptly decides to act like it snapped a throttle cable... "Stupid God%^&(#^ governor!"

2001 Suzuki Intruder Volusia
- Can't breathe, must lower head to counteract helmet strangulation! Ahh, much better! Wow, I'm really moving, and that ground is really close! *Evil Grin* hehehe, this is fun! Bike is maxed out, so I'll slow down back into legal speeds and let it recuperate... Wow, that was fun!

2004 Suzuki GSX-R 600
- Huh, wonder how much throttle twist it'll take to AAHHHHHH OHMYGOD IT'S PULLING MY ARMS OUT OF SOCKET!!!! Wow, umm, a little different than my cruiser... Wonder how fast I'm goiHOLY CRAP GODALMIGHTY. I'm doing 110 in a 55!!! *Promptly learns that a stoppie on a supersport wouldn't be that hard to pull off...*

Hope you enjoyed my little comparison... And feel free to write in criticisms, critiques, and additions!

'86 Mustang GT in 5th gear and not red lined. I'm afraid of the steering wheel as the most slightest touch and I change lanes. Afraid to look down and not at the open road head, its approx 145 mph or more but a touch less than 150. This is a stock car, no upgrades.

I slowly release all pressure from the gas pedal and let aerodynamic take me down. Up ahead I see some dots. These dots turn into cars that I pass at 85/90 mph. At 70 I put the cruise on and check my pants for any leakage. None detected. I never relive that event or close to it. I still drive up to 100 plus but not anywhere near that and not very often.

Ronald Reagan is still in office and all is well.

My 89 Acura Integra would get up to 130, but the suspension was dodgy at that speed. It would cruise at 115 for hours, though. Of course that was in Europe where at 115 mph, you'll sometimes find yourself getting passed by station wagons and such.

Wrider, what did your VL800 max out at? My Dad is convinced it will do 110 if he tried, I however, suspect not.

88 Mustang LX 5.0L
120 mph - smooth as silk

76 VW Rabbit
94 mph - that was it, wouldn't go any faster, relatively smooth

64 Chevy II
80mph - poor thing was shaking + rattling so much I was afraid to go any faster
I always follow the rules.
The only exception to the rule occurs when I make an exception to the rule not to make an exception to the rule and that only occurs under exceptional circumstances.

Tell your dad to try it sometime... Here at altitude (6200 ft), and jetted for the altitude, 100 was max. I did get it to 108 one time going down a large hill, tucked like a sportbiker, no windshield or anything, but it was really maxed out at 100.
Oh, and
-Memphis Fats windshield on = 100 MPH
-Windshield off = 95 MPH
Both with a 300 lb rider.

Oh, friend has a modified VL800 with a supercharger, straight pipes, and rejetted. His MIGHT get up to 110, but I honestly doubt it, although at sea level he can apparently lift the front end off the ground!

03 Windstar SEL cruises smoothly at 110 MPH.

120 strains a little bit.

LOL We were talking about riding 2up and he said he would have to be careful not to wheelie. I told him he was nuts and God himself would have to miracle that front end off the ground; maybe I shouldn't have laughed so hard.

He's got V&H straightshot pipes on and it was jetted. He's also got a Boulevard-branded windshield on it. I don't know the model name, but it's big. He weighs maybe 225.

I'll stop hijacking your thread now.
