Now I've read the posts about parking on the sidewalk (don't do it) and the ones that say your supposed to park perpendicular to the curb. But what about parking at a meter? Do you still park it perpendicular to the curb or like you would a car? Do you still need to pay? what if theres room in between two metered cars can you park there?

Well around here, yes you gotta pay - the bike is its own vehicle. I can just imagine the meter police having a grand time ticketing and towing a bike between 2 cars. And do you really want to put your bike between 2 cars like that???

It is best to park perpendicular for a few reasons; you can butt your wheel against the curb and keep your bike from rolling; the street slopes toward the curb, so it is away from your kickstand - could get knocked over; your bike is more visible to cars who think they have found an empty spot.

As far as paying - someone has to - my understanding in general is that the space is paid for, so four bikes in a space, one meter... but people (read law enforcement) in some areas get kind of @ssy about motorcycles. Check with the town you are in to see what is up.

Along similar lines, we went to a parking garage on a busy weekend - four bikes - and they said we each had to pay to park, so we took up four parking spaces - we were not all going to pay and then cram together into one or two.

I don't go into Dayton for much of anything, but my understanding of Dayton is that there are areas where the parking spaces include a yellow dot - the yellow dot is for the sidestand of a two wheeled vehicle. You are not only required to pay for the space, but it's one bike per space, and you must place your sidestand on the yellow dot or you'll get a ticket. So know your laws wherever you travel. It's a weird world out there!

When I go to town I must pay then or later....

I find it best to center the bike between the two markers so a car won't try to sqeeze in and your out/over

Of course you have to pay.
You are taking up a spot, just like any vehicle. If you don't you get to pay the parking ticket fee later on - so really its up to you!

To complicate matters even more...how about four motorcycles in one space. And if the meter runs out, how many tickets are written? If only one ticket is written, who does it go to?

Thought I'd throw that out there...

The oldest bike? The richest rider? The one with the least amount of gear? Draw straws?
