New, Charged Battery; Bike's Still Completely Powerless

#1 Unread post by brawnyhombre »

I have a '77 Suzuki GS750 bought last fall that runs great, 7000 miles, etc. I was getting ready to take it out a few days ago, went down and started it up, let it run for about ten minutes, everything was fine. I shut it off to go back inside to gear up. When I came back out and turned the key, there was no power to anything. No light, no turn signals, no horn; nothing electrical. Bike wouldn't start, either.

At that point, the battery was less than a month old. I swapped it for a new one, anyway, just to be sure, but get the same thing. Bike's completely dead.

So now I'm figuring it's the main fuse. Here's where the question gets silly: I'm having a hard time telling how to get the old fuse out to replace it. That year had a single main fuse rather than a panel, and, following the wires, it looks like the tank needs to come off to disconnect the old fuse. The manual doesn't say anything about how to do it, and I can't find a how-to online about it. I'm guessing that means it's really simple, but that doesn't mean I can figure it out easily.

Anyone out there have experience with this year that can verify what I need to do? Also, given the symptoms, does it sound like I'm even on the right track?
Just assume I know nothing, everybody, and that'll cut down on the follow-up, "Huh?" responses.

according to the parts diagram at Bike Bandit you do have a fuse panel, and it may be located under the seat or behind one of the side panels. The diagram isn't completely clear as to it's location.

The folks over at http://www.thegsresources.com can likely give you some more detailed information.
