ok well i apologize if this was mentioned or answered in another section of this forum. I am new and still wet behind the ears, so please go easy with the flaming....I am in the market for a sport bike....with that being said i have ridden a katana 600 cc about 2 or 3 times through a subdivision (turns were much more tricker than i thought)...I had absaloutly no problem shifting or with the power(i know their slow but still, no stalling)....Well I read the sticky on here about a new bike for a noob (250/500 cc) but it kind of doesnt apply to me....im 6'3"...215 lbs....long legs....all arround pretty big guy....so this has left me looking at a GSXR 750 or a 600....I know probably way to much bike for me and i know the argumnets i will see, im really looking for user feedback from the bigger guys on these bikes...I live in the straight country, I can take my tme and not bother anyone by learning how to ride out here....so let me simplify it:
looking for 6'3" guys that have ridden 600cc or 750's, how do they feel?
Jackt and size you wear (please provide chest size and arm length please)
once again take it easy on the noob, just looking for the info, im about to sell my rice machine so this will serve as a gas saver (and ins saver) as well as my daily speed fix....thanks guys

On how a jacket will fit you really need to go try one on as different suppliers will be slightly different from one XL to another suppliers XL.
The Same is also true for bike. If you buy new or used you should go sit on diffent styles and then once you pick a style you like, then see how the different size engine feel for handling the overall weight of the bike.
In general , as far as power a 250cc bike will pull a 250 lb rider just fine. Being new, you need to find a bike that is within your skills and not just what looks/sounds good.

yea i understand that, i was more interested in the size of me and my legs being a lengthy guy getting on a 250 i will A) probably be hitting the handle bars and B) look goofy as hell...i have sat on a 250 when i was in high school (i was 6'1" then) and even then, with my build i was just a tad to big...im not worried about power as i have no plans or desires to go out and start racing people...just questions and concrns for the sze of me and differet bikes....
any specific brand helmets or jackets that just set them selves apart from the competition that i need to be looking at...

I'm 6'1" and fit on my buddy's ninja 250 just fine.
A GSX for your first bike is really not a good idea. When you actually own a bike and are riding it regularly, you will end up in many, many different situations. In a lot of those situations, a forgiving bike can mean all the difference in the world.
EDIT: oh, and the low, compact position a sport bike like the gixxer puts you in is MORE likely to be cramped and uncomfortable for a big guy than the upright, standard position something like a 250 puts you in.

Hey, coming from a guy at the same height and 300 lbs, trust me, a 600cc bike will scare the crap outta you if you twist the throttle a little hard.
As for the speed argument I'm sure you're gonna throw out there, because of your car (nice, BTW), any 600cc is faster than that STOCK. Honestly, at your weight, look at something like a Ninja 650R.
My Volusia weighed in at 550 lbs, had 50 HP and 50 FT/LBS and still got my fat "O-Ring" up to 60 in under 6 seconds... and it was a cruiser...
Oh, and if you're worried about looking weird, don't go for the Katana, aka the GSX, they look like bugs rolling down the road...

i appreciate the responses guys, i know you wanna take a easy shot at the noob...i definitly know that their arnt really any bikes out their my SRT can beat or even feel like....also, i know the katana is god awful, thats why i want a 600ish to 750 gsxr....so let me destroy this myth right now, 600, 750 and 1000 are all on the same frame and will fit exactly the same, just different engines/tranny?If this is true then iill definitly go with a 600 and kill the 750 idea, also this brings up another question, can i just drop in a 1000cc or possiby a 750 after i master the 600 and want some more power? I understand their will be little different snags, but for the most part is this like a honda swapping an engine or trying to swap a honda engine in a ford???? Easy or hard?

Simple idea - newbs have no business learning on a GSXR750. And I reiterate, "learning". Start off on a tamer bike, like a Suzuki GS500F.

All in good time man, you'll get the bike you want. But the key is to learn how to ride well. You want to find the limits of your bike, not the limits of your skill. Finding the limits of your skill will get you into trouble, even when you're not looking.
Anyway, what's your experience? Are you licensed? How old are you? Have you called around for insurance quotes? Are you goingto finance a brand new bike?

experience is i have ridden a couple of times on a katana through a subdivision, I was licensed in my state (motorcycle license) but its now out of date as i joined the army and never updated it, age-22, insurance is 122/month with liab (my dad owns a body shop, theirs no need to get full as well as if i drop a 600 its more than likely going to be totalled)....i will be financing a used bike....im not a newb to planning out and buying a vehicle, but thanks for the helpful questions....i have a accident and a reckless on my past thats why my insurance is pretty high...Shorts wrote:Simple idea - newbs have no business learning on a GSXR750. back to the original questions, differnece between the chassis of 600, 750, and 1000??? Are their any and what are they?
What are the main difference's with the honda, kaw, suzuki, and yamaha....just small little differences, or are we talking a gigantic difference in each????

I'm still gonna say don't do it, and trust me, the ninja 650 fits much better with a 6'2" guy, but if you're still gonna be insistent, then talk to Britjoe. He tried to jam a 1K gixxer motor into a 750 frame, and ended up doing so much work he street-fightered it... Looks good though!
