12mm Helicoil

#1 Unread post by Iain »

Does anyone know where I can get a 12mm spark plug repair kit for a decent price? I've found a few heli coil sets, but the price is insane. Close to 100$ sometimes more just to repair one spark plug. All I need is some sort of system to rethread the spark plug as it got stripped over the years.
I don't mind ordering it from somewhere, as long as its not going to cost an arm and a leg. Thanks :D

There are other thread repair kits made. SI helicoil kits are really expensive 12mm cost me $39 and 5/16" costs $24
Your spark plug is probably 14mm or 18mm not 12mm unless it is a 5/8" peanut plug.

No, its definatly 12mm. Had it measured by the guy at the store, plus when I looked up the replacement spark plugs they are 12mm. Its an older bike so that may be why its so weird. I still haven't had any luck tracking down a kit. It's the tool in it thats expensive, the replacement coils are dirt cheap.

SAE lists two 12mm sparkplug threads both 1.25 pitch one straight one tapered. You might try an auto repair shop, and see if they can rent you tool as Ford 302 (at least in the 80s) used this. They use a 5/8 socket and are refered to as peanut plugs (at least down in the States) Never saw one on a bike though must be Oriential
