WD-40.
There are other things you can buy that will do the job better, but most people have WD-40 on hand already and it usually gets the job done.

Brake clean... just don't leave it on very long - it eats paint too, haha.

Ideally, a heat gun would work best to soften up the glue then try some soap and water while it's still warm. If you don't have a heat gun try a hair dryer. A heat gun is just like a hair dryer on steroids anyway.

I use a product called Goo Gone for all my sticky problems. Home improvement stores like Home Depot carry it. Just used it to remove an inspection sticker on my bike. Let it soak a little while and comes off clean with rubbing.

open gas tank, dip corner of a cotten cloth in there, wipe gas-wet bit of cloth on sticker residue, watch residue go bye-bye instantly, use dry part of cloth to finish up, wash and wax bike. have happy day

I concur with the Goo Gone. Great stuff, almost miraculous. Works on all kinds of residual sticky mung. Much better and safer than gasoline, too.
