It's not a terrible starting bike, it doesn't have too much power but it does weigh a bit. Overall, I'd say it's a better starting bike than my KZ650, and I turned out alright.

In 1985, my first bike was a 79 KZ750. I survived. (I did have a cuople of years of moped riding under my belt before taking up riding.)
It is a big heavy bike though. THe day I bought it, I rode it home from the seller's house and hopped off, ready to put the kickstnd down. (moped habits.) Of course the bike fell right over. I thought to myself "Dang, these things are heavy!" then wrestled it up from the ground.
It's a while ago but I don't recall it as being too much bike(6-2, 170lbs.) or too scary to ride - and I taught myself how to ride so it could be that I just didn't know any better.
