Firstgear Kilimajaro vs Mesh/ Dragon Jeans

#1 Unread post by ifrpilot »

Shopping for my first gear. I've got the jacket narrowed down to Firstgear, which I like. I live in NE Ohio, where Spring/Fall riding can be 50-60 degrees, but hot summer days can go to 90s. Probably won't be on highway for awhile. Any opinions on Firstgear's Meshtex II vs Kilimajaro (both with good reviews).

Also, have heard good things about Dragon Jeans (jeans with Kevlar), but couldn't find reviews. Anyone using this? Decent protection?

Thanks!

The correct spelling I think is Draggin Jeans - try Googling that, you should get some info.

I bought the Kilimajaro jacket and it really is a good all around waterproof jacket. Have driven in heavy rain and outer layers soak up all the water but makes the jacket very heavy.... waterproof membrane keeps the water out. Was riding last summer without liner and all vents open when I realized that it was getting kinda hot. Pulled over by a stream soaked my t-shirt and kept cool for another 1 1/2.....then I realized that it was 40C outside. Anything over 30C and it gets a little too much when your not moving. I have purchased mesh jacket(Joe Rocket) for this summer with built in waterproof liner for those days when temps are too much. Still highly recommend Kilimajaro jacket.

Cheers
