Motorcyle in the rain, and then sputtering

I rode my motorcyle to work yesterday, and it rained.
When I went to leave and started it up, it sounded a bit flooded.
It sputtered for a bit and then started acting normal again.

So is that fine ?

If it's running normal again, then it's fine.

It might be worth checking your plug leads - I had the same thing on an old FZ i had, that arked across to the engine fom the lead, rather than sending the power to the plug every time it rained.

Changed the leads, (£2 a time) and had no more problems!

i always wonderd about rain getting into the exhaust. sport bikes have the high angled pipe(s) what are the chances of rain getting into the pipe, and once in can it cause problems or will it jsut burn off.

Bugga-all would penetrate into your muffler.

Any that may have wouldn't last long once you bike was started & ridden.

When washing my bike I was never concerned with water in the pipes, sure I didn't squirt water down them on purpose or anything, but I reckon nothing penetrated worth worrying about either.

I know my GS500 muffler has a very small hole just so moisture can drain. If you look close enough I'm sure you'll find one on your bike as well.

I know with mine, the pipe has high angles, but the actual tip that emits the exhaust is angled from the pipe so it is level with the ground. I never even thought about it honestly, but I ride in the rain all the time and have never had problems, except the time I had no front fender on. The Nighthawk wouldn't go over 40 mph, guess cold rain straight on the engine isn't good. :frusty:
