Anyone know anything (good or bad) about the Kawasaki Z1000

I was thinking of buying a new one. I am in the USA so I am assuming that is the version I would be buying.
I got to test drive one, it performed well and really suited my posture and riding style.
I was just wondering if they have any glaring problems or shortcomings in the long term.
Sorry, was intending to put this in the opinions and reviews thread. Maybe someone could move it for me.

The only thing I noticed at the showroom was a pretty fixed, restricted seating position. I like to be able to move around from front to back so I can stretch my old vertebrae a little. Style-wise I don't care for all the mufflers, either. I know that's a personal one.

I haven't ridden one yet, but the only real shortcoming I've read about is a lack of wind protection. Of course, this is a personal thing and you can probably find a fix on the aftermarket. Anyway, after all it is a "nekkid" bike. Frequent valve adjustments may be an issue for you, I dunno. The typical interval is 6,000 miles for modern inline-four Kawi's. Probably the same for the Z1000.

My kz-900 was ok. I just didn't like it because it was to heavy, but as far as problems? there were none. It ran great and acted like it was suppose to.

I read someplace the valve adjusts were at 15,000 miles. Unusual for Kawi historically, but they have to get with the competition sometime. Yamaha is still the longest, with most of their bikes running out to 26,000 plus. I like that.

Have you ever considered the Yamaha FZ1? Probably about the same class
of bike with a whole lot of after market parts available. May be worth
waiting till September to see what the '06 FZ1 looks like, as it sounds like a
number of enhancements are planned for the new model.
The Kawi Z1000 definitely looks sweet though. I can definitely feel your pain
though, it really sucks getting hung up on a specific bike. Probably worth
while to try an find an owners group somewhere and find out what type of
problems people have had with the bike.
