Yesterday while out and about we came across a bad bike versus mini van head on accident. we saw the smoke rising from probably 1/2 mile before we got there. The bike had been going south on a fairly twisty piece of road and come into a really bad corner that he couldn't make at the speed he was traveling. When he crossed into the other lane he struck a north bound Chrysler mini van head on. The rider was knocked off the bike and the bike was knocked back uo the road probably 150 feet where it burned until I couldn't even tell what kind of machine it had been. The rider (very lucky man) was laying on his back in the road talking to the medics and didn't look too badly hurt. The mini van was hit hard enough that the air bags were blown. The people in it were not hurt except for being burned a little from the air bags going off. So guys & gals, be carefull out there. We don't wanna lose any of ya. Especially watch those roads that you're not familiar with.

Definitely. I went into the oncoming lane once due to misjudging a corner on an unfamiliar route. Luckily there was no one else on the road.

It happened again when I was going too fast and not paying enough attention on a familiar road, and I was about a foot into the other lane scraping the right peg as a car came toward me. Thank god the other driver was aware or I might not be here.

That last incident really woke me up, and now I'm a much safer rider.

Sounds like all parties involved in that wreck were extremely lucky. Head-on is the worst possible crash I can imagine.
