Looking at buying a fairly nice looking '83 Seca 750 however it got a wee bit of a problem, it wont start.

Talking with the current owner I got this info:

1) It was running fine until he decided to sell it, and while it sat the battery died.
2) They tried to jump start with a car, and crossed the jumpers, negative to positive and positive to negative
3) They then crank the engine (don't ask me how) until smoke came pouring out of the turn signal canceler.
4) Owner replaced the battery and coil afterwards and the bike started but only ran on two cylinders instead of four.
5) Starter motor will crank the engine, however the engine will not fire
6) Inspection of what I could see of the wiring harness showed no heat discoloured or burnt leads.
7) Didn't get a chance to check the spark to see if they were getting any juice nor was I able to do a compression test on the cylinders.

The price for this bike is right, and I am looking at it more as a winter project, however I would still like to be able to boot about on it during the summer. So any suggestions or ideas would be most welcome.

Never mind, came across an '85 Honda V65 in a lot better shape for the same money......grabbed it up right quick.

I had an 82 Seca -- first bike in the mid ninties. That thing was plagued with starting issues. Replaced the starter, all the wires, etc. Still exactly as you described and never got any better.

Plus, they probably fried the ignition system on it. Good choice to go with something else.
