Alright, I've been thinking long and hard about getting a motorcycle (I'd prefer a crotch rocket, like a Ninja, or eventually a Hyabusa turbo) and if I was reading correctly I think those are a little bit too "advanced" for me?

I was just wondering what a good begginer cycle would be for me..

5'9" 140 pounds

A Ninja 250cc should put enough rocket in your crotch.

AS FOR STARTERS, YOU SHOULD PROBABLY BUY A MOTORCYCLE FROM CRAIGSLIST THAT IS SOME WHAT CHEAP WITH ABOUT 500CC. SOMETHING LIKE A GSX 500. RIDE IN AN OPEN AREA , LIKE FOR INSTANTS, A PARKING LOT. BUT A GOOD WAY TO START OFF WOULD BE TO LEARN HOW TO SHIFT ON AN ATV( QUAD ). AFTER THAT IT SHOULD ALL BE THE SAME FOR A BIGGER BIKE. NOT TOO BIG THOUGH, JUST UPGRADE TO LIKE A 600CC MOTORCYCLE. HARDEST PARTS ABOUT RIDING THAT TAKES SOME GETTING USE TOO WOULD BE TURNING, AND TAKE OFF. DONT HISATATE TO UPGRADE. ON A BIGGER MOTORCYCLE YOU'DE HAVE TO GET USED TO THE THROTTLE. IT TENDS TO BE A LITTLE MORE TORQUEY. GOOD LUCK ,& DON'T FORGET TO WEAR A HELMET.

Alright, thanks for the tips and such, I'd keep that in mind.

Of course I'd wear a helmet, I'm not an idiot...

But I don't have an ATV (quad), to practice shifting. But I have a couple friends who'd probably help me, so thanks for everything.

Lay off the caps sonny

If you are into sportbikes, get something like a ninja 250, ninja 500 or suzuki gs500 to start off on. For a beginner rider, a 500 is plenty of juice.

Oh and take an MSF course first.

I really enjoy sports bikes, and plus I like the sound they make, and their speed.

You should get a used bike under 600cc for a first bike. You will have problems when learning and could damage it. It's better to damage an older used bike obviously.

A 600cc rocket or larger is wayyyy to dangerous for any beginner. Young guys with too much testosterone will ride too far over their heads and in the wrong places. Here's a good thread, WARNING, this is enough to make some people vomit!

This is a guy that rode over his head and not on a track or safe place learning a little at a time.

I started riding in 74 and would be afraid of a 600cc rocket for a while. Those things can get you hurt/killed real fast. No way should any beginner try it. Ride a year on a cruiser or something or maybe a 250 rocket, PLEASE.

I could comfortably put you in any muscle car you want from the showroom floor and you could drive it reguardless of the amount of horsepower it has. But riding a motorcycle with a lot of horsepower is very different and like a NASCAR car, it can require years of training, skill and experience to handle such a vehicle.

A Hyabusa or ZX-11/14 Ninja or big cc supersport is like driving a F1 car, even above a NASCAR car in terms of output.

Don't go assuming a 250cc, 500cc or 600cc bike with 60 or less HP is slow. They are definately not. 60hp can take you over 220km/h, which here is x2 over the fastest speed limit we have. (110km/h) and fast enough to pass anything on the road.

Would you say a Ferrari is slow? No you wouldn't, but a 250cc Ninja can match it in acceleration.
