Vibration at mid revs

Bought my bike a few months ago and have put around 1k miles on it. (26500 now) --96' Honda Magna 750 btw.

Anyways, at around 5k rpm the engine vibrates quite a bit. I can feel it in my feet through the floor pegs (almost like holding a gas powered weed eater).

I have my tool kit for the bike on the way to me, so I'll replace the spark plugs this week when that gets in.

If that doesn't fix it, and besides a good carb cleaning, could there be another culprit? I think I'll quit riding it until I figure out what the problem is.

--note-- The guy I bought it from said in three years he only put 1k miles on her. I'm almost through a can of sea foam now, so I'm pretty sure a carb cleaning and plugs will probably remedy all of this.

engines vibrate

if it seems excessive it's possible that something (a motor mount for example) is broken. The face it's not persistant indicates it's just the way the engine works. You'll get used to it eventually.

Thanks Sev.

My father used to drive an older inline 4 Honda, and said his was smooth as could be. The v4 should be even smoother.

I understand they vibrate (of course, lol), I just worry if it's a bit much. Since it's my first bike, I'm not sure what's normal, and what's too much. I know a motorcycle mechanic at bible study, maybe i can convince him to drive it around some and see what he thinks. =)

Give it a check through for broken/loose fasteners of any sort, as they will amplify a buzz off the engine. Mine vibrates pretty bad between 5500 and 6250 rpm. It's just in the nature of an engine to vibrate some.

I've got a Honda inline 4 in mine.

Cool, cool.

That sounds A LOT like mine. Around 5k rpms it begins and it seems to die off in the higher revs. It's hard to tell though. And with 5k rpm being right around 70 mph in 5th gear, I notice it all the time. =)

I'll definately give all the bolts a check-over though next chance I get.
