Difference between touring/sport/cruiser bikes

Hey Guys, I'm looking to buy my first bike and I've looked through the Forum and people suggest bikes, or say test drive them/buy a used bike, but I haven't been able to find a description of the differences between the types of bikes. I understand that I need to get whatever suits me best, but I could some help figuring out if a sport or a touring or a cruiser suits me best!
Thanks guys, I look forward to your responses and learning to ride!

If it's your first bike it doesn't matter that much really. Just get a light, low powered bike that fits you well.

If you really want to know key differences between the types of bike, wikipedia is your friend.

Thanks

Just click on the TMW home page link above and on the bike guides by year, they will show the bikes in the different catagories and you can click on the bike model designation and see pics and specs.

Like this one for 07 Kawi:

If you sign up for the MSF Basic Riders Course, you'll learn that, along with a whole lot of potentially life saving stuff.
