OK - so now I'm confused. I was trying to convince myself that the DR650 would make a suitable first bike, but after all the comments regarding the DR400, I'm not so sure about the 650 anymore.
Why would the 400 be a better beginner bike? The only reason I could see would be the smaller displacement. The seat is actually quite a bit taller on the 400 (at least in print). to be fair, I haven't been able to sit on either. Am I missing something here?
Hmmm...... ?
Suzuki DR400 vs. DR650????
The only real advantage the 400 would have over the 650 is off road ability, since its about 40 pounds lighter. But if you arent doing serious off roading then I wouldnt worry about it. The 650 would likely make a better bike on the street, especially if any highway riding is involved.
The only other thing I could think of is that the 400's liquid cooling might do better in the new mexico heat.
