don't do the crime if you can't do the time or pay the fine...
personally i don't see a problem with it for the law abiding citizen...

This is just another way to tax people. I seriously doubt it will have any effect on speeders in VA, aside from plunging them into poverty one by one.

While I applaud the law, I will have to say:
That's Virginia for you.

I'm okay with laws like that for DUI/DWI offenses, but "reckless driving" is awfully easy to do - 75 in a 55 in many states. A year in jail for 75 mph?

That's really, really awesome.
How many motorcyclists are killed by drivers who habitually speed or drive recklessly?
How many people in general are killed by drivers who habitually speed or drive recklessly?
The number of people killed on our highways every year is absolutely ridiculous. For years I have been calling for much harsher penalties for those who violate traffic laws.
It's about damn time someone does something about it.

That's maximum, not minimum.

A year in jail is just one possible penalty for reckless.
This new system happened in Va because many places in Virginia NEED new and more numerous roads. The citizens however decided that they didn't want to pay a higher tax on anything to pay for it. Since the politicians like their jobs they decided that this solution effected the least amount of voters while raising revenue. It's only if you are convicted of certain offenses and average joe citizen will never know.
.... or maybe John Politician's burn out law school traffic court room mate just needs some more clients. I'd rather pay $500 for a lawyer than $3000.

Jail time for going 75 in a 55? That's pretty effing insane. I know it's a minimum, but just the thought that it's a possibility depending on what crusty old judge you get is scary.
Yikes.

Well it also covers doing 120 in a 35. Reckless in Va is 20+ or any speed over 80
