motor size

#1 Unread post by MarkRB »

I am not mechanical, my knowledge of motors is limited so I have what might be a stupid question. How big is the Suzuki Boulevard S40 motor compared to say the Vulcan 500 or Honda Shadow VLX? Most motors are listed as cc, the S40 is 40ci. Thanks

40ci = ~655cc

You can use this:
http://www.onlineconversion.com/auto_convert.pl

and type in this:
convert 40 cubic inches to cubic centimeters

to get this:
40 inches^3 = 655.48256 centimeters^3

Only Suzuki switched to CI and it was to appeal to the American Cruiser Market. It's something they can understand a little better.

Harley motors are in CC because they aren't built in America anymore...
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Sportster motors are built here in the Kansas City plant.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

That was a bad joke... though lots of the production is apparently exported to countries where it costs less. Then parts are imported and assembled here.

Not just Suzuki, Honda too. (V45 Magna) and Yamaha (102ci Road Star) And at the same time HD giving engine sizes in CC. Seems ironic. I am talking about which method the companies choose to use.

And Harley engines are too builtaaaaaaaaassembled in the USA. (BT-Wisc,XL-KC)

At least Kawasaki and Victory are staying true to their traditions.

Google will do that too "40 cubic inches in cubic centimeters" works just nicely

Will even convert hexadecimal to roman numerals too.... how incredibly useful

True, but the Honda is from 1982-1986. And they have since abandoned the naming convention. I suspect that it had something to do with the problems of importing bikes into the states.
