I have an '82 Honda CM450 twin. At wide open throttle it sings like a british twin, but at idle and at low speeds it is really quiet. I am looking for a little more volume without being too loud. I was thinking of drilling a few holes in the baffles to see how it sounds.

However, I am trying to avoid having to rejet or adjust the carbs. Im afraid that the bike may run lean if I just drill the holes and leave the carbs alone. Id rather not mess up an otherwise reliable bike.

Anyone have any insight?

82s would be set very lean from the factory, so opening up the exaust at all, will just make it worse. And I don't think the bike will run as well.I'd leave it alone.

Hmm..thats what I was afraid of. Do you think even just a couple 3/8 in. holes in only the rear outlet baffle (not the inner baffles deep inside the mufflers) would make a difference in backpressure? I was thinking that if things didnt go well, I could then plug the holes with 1/2 in. screws and it would be sorta back to stock.

Or maybe I better just leave well enough alone.
