Why is it that even when guided to the excellent sticky post at viewtopic.php?t=11866 on why newbies should stay with lower weight and power bikes they argue the point that has been answered over and over?

It seems to me we would do a greater service to newbies to just paste the url only and wish them a good read. Between the starter post, which is excellent, and some of the follow on threads, it answers ever possible question.

Yet even with this being done already, people still try to fight the safety issue of riding for tomorrow due to pure ego.

I have faltered and tried to reason with some but for many newbies its just not possible.

From now on I will try to just post the link and wish them well or just not post. I just get so tired of it and I have not been here that long. So my only question to those that have been here a while is "how do the rest of you deal with the same question over and over with no end ever.... "

"I want a CBR650 or 1000 death cruiser" or "is bike xyz too tall, just read the sticky and plug in your inseam......"

I do understand that some topics that are covered semi-often are not always easy to find again. This has happened to many of us and that's not what I'm talking about above. It's the not reading of the well written sticky posts that bugs me a lot.

You can lead a horse to water...

People, especially kids with egos, don't listen to things they don't want to hear.

People repeatedly answer their questions because it feels good to deflate an overly large ego.

I try and skip the topics like that. I don't have the time to argue the same point over and over.

It does leave me with little discussion to read around here though

People who have been here for years, like myself, tend to avoid those topics for the most part. People who have been here for...say... six months might be new to those questions from our even newer members, so they try to answer them - maybe not knowing that the question has gone around a million times. If you don't like to see it, then just ignore it. Like Veda says, it does leave little to read around here these days, but it will produce much less stress for yourself.

How about LOCKED stickies on the finer points of picking first bikes and suggestions we get all the time. I like the stickies up there but hate the fact that they get all mucked up by replies dissenting the info. If people aren't going to heed the advice, fine. But I don't particularly care or think we need to hear why they are the exception...we all know why they "think" they are.

I'm guilty of making that mistake with this new member "Anthony" the other day........ whoever he really is. Sometimes my fingers run faster than my brain....

that was an amazing thread to read. "i'm not like every other teenager, i'll read your wisdom and experience and disregard it. see, i'm a smart teenager." wow. i'm still new, but i don't try to answer those questions. not unless i'm face to face with someone. on line - not worth my time.

It more like "I don't know the questions, therefore your answers are meaningless and can be ignored."
