best way to go about rebuilding a carburetor?
I just took the carb off my '78 KZ200 to rebuild it so i can get it ready to give to someone else learning how to ride. I ordered the kit for it and am just waiting for it to come in the mail...but seeing as ive never had to rebuild a carburetor before, does anyone have any advice?

If you have a manual pay attention to the directions ... just take it slow and easy ... don't rush

send the carb to me!
if you understand how the fuel and air flows through the carb its real simple.
all the passages must be clean inside the carb body not just the jets.
get some carb clean in a gallon can. you can get this at most auto parts stores. remove all jets and anything else that comes out. (no need to seperate mutiple carbs. if applicable) put the carb (and jets. a tuna can with holes in it works well for holding the small parts)) into the solution for no more then 45 min but at least 30 min. rinse with hot water. use air to blow out all passages.
dont forget to check float level. and adjust air/fuel mixture screw.

carb rebuild
my $ 0.02 worth....
You may get away with not using that carb rebuild kit. The only reason I have needed them is to get the gasket replaced.
As stated before...take your time. Keep track of how things are placed (I used to take pictures). Those little pieces roll off of tables easily so make sure you keep them "in" something.
If you use a compressor to "blow" passages clean....don't use a lot of pressure. 100psi is too much. Plus those little parts get blown around real easily.
Last bit of advice...The carb is not indestructable. Use gentle force when tapping the float pin out and make sure the floats are put back the correct way....if they go in upside down...you will wonder why you can't get gas into the carb. LOL All this from my own bumblings with carbs...I am on my 4th set and am getting better and better at it. There actually may come a time when I tear one set down and put it together and it stays together without having to tear it down again and wonder what I did wrong. LOL
