Neighbor has '98 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 for sale for $1000.
Says runs great except for small oil leak when running and radiator fan won't shut off. He disconnects fan wire when parked. Bike looks good and has 20,000 miles.
I ride a Yamaha and have no experience with Kawasakis.
Has anyone experienced similar problems. Expensive to fix?
Any thoughts?
Thanks for help.

Have you seen him riding it? Does he ride it a lot? The price seems a little low for a running, good looking bike.

Where is the oil leaking from?

On the fan problem, it could be that the relay is stuck on, or that the temp sencer switch at the left bottom of the radiator is stuck closed (meaning on the on position). I had to replace my relay box cost little over 100$.
My fan would not come on.
I have oil sipeage where the wires to the alternator go into the engine.
Hope this helps you some.

Gee Sev, let's play devils advocate here. If that leak was from, oh let's say the rear headgasket, just how much work/time/$$$ involved?

What if it was leaking from the rear flux capacitor?

The rear flux capicitor is more expensive then the front one. You need to get in around the inverter in order to get at the front one.
Head gasket, I'd say at most a couple hours work (probably less) plus the gasket itself. Not too expensive.
