Total Noobie, Need Help

Hi, when i comes to motocycles i have always loved the idea of riding one. Now that i can get one and afford on i want on. I have never driven a motocycle before. I really like the look of spot bikes, but i have no clue on which on i should get. I have read a few forums on this site and noticed that a lot of people keep saying a noobie shouldnt buy a 600cc+ sport bike as there first. I am just wondering what type of bike i should get, i am not picky about naw brands such as honda, suzuki, etc.. as long as it has that spots look to it. Any suggestions?

alright first off read all the stickys at the top of the page....then realize that you NEED to take the BRC which is ment for total noobs like urself and all of us at one point in time.....The class teachs you how to do most of the basics....and also about gear and everything u need to know....realize that u need a DOT approved helmet... no u may no look cool with it but when a bug flys at u when ur going 40 and it hits you u will learn a quick lesson and i hope it doesnt cost you ur life if your not prepared....Take the class first then you can pick your bike....as for your bike you probably want a 250cc Ninja they are fairily cheap and common.... First take the class then get ur gear then buy a bike then get insurance and realize how no other drivers respect you or see you for that fact....

Here is my standard answer to the first bike question with links. It reitterates a lot of what Nathan already said. If you have any other questions or comments, feel free. The folks here are very knowledgeable and helpful. But be forewarned, most are fanatical about safety.

Have you checked out the Beginner's Guide? There are also stickies and the Learn To Ride A Motorcycle page which is downloadable in PDF format (Created and maintained by Dragonhawk).

I also recommend an MSF or other reputable safety course and reviewing your state’s (province’s/territory’s) DMV or DOT website for licensing information, guidelines and FAQ.

Go to a variety of dealers and sit on all kinds of different motorcycles. Even if you don’t think you’d like the ride when you look at it. I was dead set on one riding style when I started and ended up buying a different type. You may surprise yourself as well.
