I have a 06 Honda shadow and i can not get it to start. This morning I started it to warm it up before i went to work. it started fine, ran for a few minutes then died as i was trying to leave the drive way. when i got home i tried it again and it ran for a few seconds then died again. now i have nothing. the starter is working, i have fuel and spark but it doesn't want to start up. any ideas???

Are you sure you have fuel?

Sounds like someone turned the petcock to off and didn't turn it back on.

OR your kickstand/clutch killswitch is being activated.

Open up gas cap, maybe venting problem?

If you have fuel/spark/rotation, it has to run.

Something is missing.

My NH750 is cold blooded and needs a choke on a cold start, even in the summer time.

Do you smell gas? Could be flooded.

Carbs have drains on them. Open the drain (into a rag or cup) and see if any thing else beside gasoline comes out.

Put the petcock on reserve. Maybe you are just a little too low on gas to get a good flow...

Just tried the gas cap thing....nothing
I actually hauled the thing to a shop today, mechanic come out turned the key and fired it up after a few cranks. We were both shocked. anyways, I rode home, thing ran great. A couple hours later I started it up and rode about a 1/4 mile and it died again. Now I am back to square one. I am leaning to it being fuel related but I don't think it is flooded. Thanks for the help, I am going to get back to pulling my hair out.

Will it start again after you let it cool down? I had a similar problem with my old bike once. I had dumped too much carb cleaner into the tank and it was running super rich. After driving around enough to get the engine hot, it would stall out when I came to a stop. I had to let the engine cool down before it would start again. I replaced the gas and everything was fine. Maybe your carbs dumping too much fuel. Pull the plugs out and see if they are black and sooty, that means your running rich.

Here is an update. The thing is running, good as ever. but I still have no idea what the problem was, I am thinking maybe there was a little dirt or something that got knocked loose when I was digging around on the thing. I found a little debris in the carb bowl, but not much. thanks a bunch for all of the help.
