Carb Float Adjustment??? *Pictures*

#1 Unread post by BananaKatana »

My bikes been out of commision for a few weeks now, the problem being carburetor floats that I can't get adjusted right, and very little time to work on the thing. Im dying to get it back on the road finally (just got it before the summer) and all the over-price bike shops around here have at least a 2 month wait. The random stalling and erract performance that has been haunting me for a while now is narrowed down to float problems in the carbs. After a good cleaning and a close check to make sure everything was in order in the float bowls, the problem remains, no matter what I do for trail-and-error for adjusting the floats. I even bought a new-er set of katana carbs and modifed my intake to fit, only to find out that the jet size and type was incorrect for my bike. I'm now back to trying to adjust the floats on the old carbs, but I can't find and literature or accurate advice on how to level these things. Here some pictures of the situation (Carbs sitting level, upside-down).... Any advice?

Another view of them, all even and seeming to be "floating" in the middle, barely resting on the fuel plunger

All of these plungers move freely and none seem stuck

I couldn't find much in a search about adjusting 4 carb floats like this. Any advice would be apprecaited, thanks for looking

You need the workshop manual, haynes, clymer, suzuki something. We can't talk you through this one, unelss someone here has done a Katana before?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I can't seem to find any guides for my specific bike. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but all I can find is manuals for the newer carburated bikes. I would think mine would be a common deal since as far as I know its the same motor as a '93 gixxer. Thanks for the input, Sam

even once you have the floats all adjusted properly, you still need to synchronize the carburetors so that everything runs smoothly.

You can get a Clymer manual for your bike HERE

To synchronize the carbs you will need one of THESE
1983 Suzuki GS650GL (sold)
2005 Kawasaki KLR 650 (sold)
2020 KTM 200 Duke
