For anyone in my area, if you want the very best woodworking, for the very best price, you don't go to Joe's Woodcrafting Liquidation Center- You go to the Amish.

Yeah, that's right. Those cow farmin', candle makin', no-electricity usin', beard sportin' (hey, not the ladies now, dadblastit) good ol' boys.

And not only do they make quality wood works for cheap, but they also make leather goods! Plus you avoid all the middle-man stuff (not sure about taxes) So go out to your local Amish shop, and ask 'em about it. Even if they don't have something to sell you, they'd probably make some custom stuff just for your specific purpose, and all at a very reasonable price.

I live in California, I am not aware of any Amish around here. Maybe you should start a webiste selling their stuff.

The strange part is, I was just going to be an A-hole and ask for their web address. Then I started thinking there may be actual money in it for you. Hey, if they make quality stuff, and they charge very resonable prices, you could resell the stuff at just reasonable prices and make a killing.

I cannot imagine the Amish having a website... The whole idea is that they are anti-technology. Still use horse and wagon instead of a cars, no telephone etc. etc. etc.
Though if we were to place orders would you be willing to send them out?

Well, from what I understand, (some of) the Amish aren't too bothered with 'contracting' work. Some of them will even use low-tech machines which they are not allowed to own, if you provide it for them for the job.

I guess I could always ask them about it- Me being an independant seller of their goods. Look out eBay, here I come!

I'm planning on going up to one of their stores tomorrow. If they have anything good, I'll see if I can get some pics/prices, and throw down a link to see what you guys think about it.

If I posted some pics and prices, I'd send them out for you if you decided to buy. Heck, even if I didn't sell their goods for them in a 'store', there's no way they're going to turn me down for buying something for a friend on the other side of the state/country/ocean.
