I am getting a new bike (CBR 600RR) and i dont have a real good place to store it out of public view. So im kinda concerned with theft.
Do alarm systems work well, what kinds are the best and do they work well by themselves or do you need a disk lock or something like that too?
And do insurance companies lower your rate with an alarm system installed?

I'd just get a brake lock; no one pays attention to alarms going off anymore, other then to think "oh that's annoying."

The only thing beyond locks & chains that is of any use would be GPS locators. There's lo-jack and this company that I've heard of:
http://www.phantomtracking.com/Store/tm ... ?body=home
Both probably not cheap.
But yeah, alarms aren't gonna do much.

you can get an alarm system if you want, but you would be well advised to back it up with a disc lock, lever lock (prevents the clutch/brake levers from being used), heavy cable (run through wheels and frame) and a cover (note: not all above locks need to be used, but you should use at least one of them)
the cover will help to disguise what kind of bike it is, and the locks will help to discourage any but the most persistent thief.

I don't think they do with GMAC, I don't recall my agent asking if I had an alarm. The only thing they wanted to know is if it was kept in a secured storage area, AKA a locked garage.

When I get my bike, I'll probably get an alarm system from
Scorpio Alarms.
I'll probably also use 2 disc locks (one for the front, and one for the back).
And I will also buy a cover, to also help protect it from the sun.
