Recently I passed my MSF test and am looking to buy a Honda rebel 450 or another bike of the same caliber. However first I need to get myself one of those four wheel vehicles as living in Pa means I'll have to deal with snow, and other factors that would prevent me from riding a bike all year long, and I'd also like some way to carry my stuff around when needed.

Originaly I was going to get a pickup but someone sugessted that I get an Astro or simmiler vehichle, and store the bike in the van and as a storage space is rather limited where I live that dosn't seem like a half bad idea.

Is that a good idea or not?

I don't know man, I didn't mean to laugh but I have to admit the thought of you driving around all winter long with your bike in the back of a van struck me as very funny.

Anyway, I don't think there are many bikes you could fit in the back of a standard mini van. A taller panel van sure, but they handle horribly in the snow. If it was me, I would look for storage elsewhere for the bike and buy a more sensible vehicle, the money you save in gas and the vehicle itself will likely pay for the storage.

... or did I get this wrong and that is not what you meant at all?

Friends of mine keep their bikes in a room in their house during the winter.

Personally, I'd look into buying a trailer if you have a driveway or extra parking space. Just make sure you secure the trailer so it can't be driven away.

Yeah, buying a van to store your bike seems a little silly. Around here the local motorcycle shops charge about $300 for winter storage. You'd probably save the $300 in buying a little economy car over the van.

During the winter, my fiance's aunt and her partner just park their Shadows in the living room facing the TV and use them instead of a couch.

You could probably rent one of those mini-storage places. I'm not sure what they cost, but I'd much rather do that then leave the bike in the back of a van for a few months.

Well I've been without having access to these forums, the last couple of weeks.

I decided to go with the advice on this forum and not get a van to store my bike in. However that does lead me to the problem of trying to find a place to store a bike in over the winter, as I don't have room for trailers and getting a bike into my apartment would be tad to difficult.
