replacing chain?

Is there a reason why I shouldnt go to say autozone and buy a roller chain to replace the drive chain on my bike?

1) Your bike most likely has an o-ring endless chain on it now.

Yes, there is.
The chain Autozone will sell you is low-grade agricultural chain and no where near as strong or long lasting as a good motorcycle-specific chain. And it is probably not an "O Ring" chain, and if it is, it's still inferior.
If it fails when on the bike, it could easily wrap up on the countershaft sprocket and bust the engine case.
The risk ain't worth the money. Suck it up and drop the coin.

but thanks for the info cause I didnt know there would be that much of a quality difference between autozone and honda. I brought this up cause im at the end of adjustment for this chain and well dont want to wait till it needs to be adjusted again to change it lol. time to look in the owners manual for the right chain type and see if I can get that exact chain cheaper online.

It will probably be easier to find a chain and sprocket kit from one of the big chain guys, such as AFAM, RK, etc.. than finding a chain then getting the sprockets you need separately.
Please don't forget to replace the chain and both sprockets at once, otherwise you'll be throwing your money away.

Yeah, buy a good aftermarket chain. A dealer-branded chain may or may not be as good quality as D.I.D. or AFAM, EK or RK, but it will be re-boxed and marked-up over what the guys who made it will charge.
And yes, you do want to replace the chain and sprockets together.

yeah I planned on replacing the sprockets as well considering at work if you just replace the chain you end up replacing the chain and the sprockets 2 or 3 weeks later. Wonder how hard this bike was pushed cause I dont quite have 20k miles on the chain yet or is that considered long for a chain (here at work we just replace them when they break lol).
man looking at the mentioned chain companies mentioned im gonna have some research ahead of me. I am a busy guy so it takes me 2-3 days to actually get into doing something that needs to be done. dah reduing rooms in a house and building houses keeps you pretty darn busy.

20k on a stock chain is pretty good. Don't sweat it.

well started looking today and I think I will go with RK chain since their website was the easiest to navigate and understand. Just gotta figure out which chian/sprocket combo to get (there are 2 different ones on the website and im not sure which one to go for. one is $150 and the other is $200 for the set. set being chain and 2 sprockets). Thanks for the help guys and even going this route it looks to be cheaper than autozone anyways lol.
