First off im fairly new to the motorcycle community so hopefully this isnt to hard to fix...
Well i have a 2001 V star 650 classic
one day about a week ago i pulled it out to go across town and i started it went inside came back and it died.
i checked fuel and it was about half full so i started again left to get something came back and same it was dead ...
so i started and i could smell fuel ... i drove it around the block and there was no loss of power and the fuel smell was gone so i hopped on the freeway and road 30 miles without a problem..then i got to a stop and the bike started to smell real bad of fuel and idle dropped until it died..i pulled off to the closest place...as i idled it fuel was comeing out of a line underneath the carb about 6 inches...at idle it was spewing out when i reved it up it goes away .. so i dont know how to proceed please help a new bike rider thanx guys

It sounds like the floats in your carbs are set too high. When you're at higher power settings, the excess fuel is taken into the engine (although it's probably still running a bit rich). At low power levels such as idle, the only place for the excess fuel to go is out the overflow tubes.
You'll probably need to open up the carbs and set the float level. While you're in there, its a good idea to give them a thorough cleaning. A good repair manual for your bike should have a detailed procedure for doing this.
