First maintenence on my new bike, help plz

#1 Unread post by GabeC »

Looking to do an oil change on my bike.

It's an 06' GSX Katana 750.

It's got just over 4k miles on it and i got it used a few days ago.

I've heard that right around 4-5k miles on it is when u wanna upgrade to a synthetic if you are going to do it.

Couple questions:

What viscosity should i use?

This oil is a synthetic correct?

And is that oil a good choice?

How many quarts does it usually take?

I plan on getting a K and N filter for it as well found on this page:

Just want to make sure everything will work on my bike. Seems as though on alot of parts, they only show up to an 05' Katana 750F, i've found out that the 750F and the 750(mine) are the same bike, but mine's an 06', did the body style change from an 05' to 06'?

thanks in advance guys!!

Whatever your manual recommends. I believe 10W-40 is the correct weight for the bike.

Yes, that's a synthetic based oil. It's probably just fine for oil choice.

Again, check your owner's manual. It probably takes between four and five quarts when changing the oil filter and draining the oil pan.

According to K&N's oil filter application page, the filter for an '05 Katana 750 will fit an '06 Katana 750. Same part number, KN-138.

Don't forget to check out the Kat Riders forum for a wealth of information on your bike.
