In know, it's unsafe to stick in those ear pods and listen to tunes when you ride. But the fact is a lot of people do. So, just out of curiosity, when you're heading out on a leisurely ride on a beautiful summer day, what do you like to listen to?

Stones Exile on Main Street and Meat Puppets Up On the Sun are up there for me. Fugazy and Buzzcocks if I'm in the city.

I don't have an iPod, but if I did, it would be:

* Bachmann-Turner Overdrive: Not Fragile
* Deep Purple: In Rock or maybe Who Do We Think We Are?
* Joe Satriani: Surfing with the Alien

Yes, I'm a fossil.

I do listen to the Cubs games on a cheapo radio -- bud in one ear only.

The sound of an air-cooled inline four, and some wind.

I've ridden a few times with the the buds in my ears and I-Pod full-o-tunes. Until I can afford some custom fit ear-buds, I think I'm done. Too hard to keep them in my ears, even when just putting on my helmet. I don't worry about the loss of sound, as it never seemed to really effect my ability to focus on my visuals, which frankly is my main safety net.

But the question was WHAT did I listen too...

Radiohead - specifically Hail to the Thief, Amnesiac, Kid A, and The Bends.

The Orb - Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld and Cydonia

Various house and techno

Some AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, and Nine Inch Nails as well.

Hmmm.... and a few Frank Zappa tunes as well.

Shoot, and I forgot, Johnny Cash.

My ipod has three playlists

Soothing - Long drives
Peppy - Running around town
Furious - Me doing things I really shouldn't

listen to the whisper of the wind and the roar of your tail. isn't that why you're riding anyways?

I make sure to use only one earbud on my Shure SE310s so I can hear traffic and listen to my tunes without raising the volume. In fact my state allows you to have one speaker in your helmet but not two.

Yeah, sure, sometimes. But on long rides some tunage is nice too. And commuting through NYC always demands aggressive soundtrack music to enhance the experience.
