how old is too old to find parts?

I'm shopping for my first bike. So it's obviously going to be used, but I'm wondering how old is too old. How much does the ability to find parts depend on bike age? Thanks.

I bought an 81 kawasaki earlier this year. I check ebay every couple of days to see what parts are usually available, just in case something breaks, and there is always a tonne of used parts for sale.

In my experiance, it has little to do with the age of the bike, and more to do with the popularity.

For example, I have an 82 xs400, I can find SOME parts, but not all. However, if I had the xs650, there are sites devoted to JUST that bike, and a site devoted to new parts for that bike.

So, check for parts avalibility online before buying, if you worried about it. Ebay is also a GREAT place to find hard-to-find parts.
