I've heard that you should start off with a bike no larger than 600cc.But I'm a big guy 6'ft.tall 240 lbs.would'nt the bike be too small for my frame. What type of starter bike would be good for a big person like me?I'm interested in sports bikes.or are they called superbikes?

A 600cc bike is definitly enough power for you if thats what your worried about. If your worried about your heigth just go sit on one and see how you like it. Even if you get a bigger cc bike the chances are its not gonna be designed much different; unless your looking for a crusier or something like that. But im talking about "supersport" bikes. Just go to a dealer and sit on one most of the time they dont mind if you sit on one.

You really need to go and sit on some bikes and see how they fit you. In just the 250cc cruiser category, there are several different bikes, and they are all ergonomically just a little from each other. As a guy who is 6' and 220lbs, a rebel felt really small to me, but a Hyosung felt really good. It is not the motor that makes it fit or not, it is the physical build of the bike.

First of all.....
Second, Have you checked out the
Beginner's Guide? There are also
stickies and the
Learn To Ride A Motorcycle page which is downloadable in PDF format (Created and maintained by
Dragonhawk).
Third, I also recommend an
MSF or other reputable safety course and reviewing your state’s (province’s/territory’s) DMV or DOT website for licensing information, guidelines and FAQ.
Fourth, Go to a variety of dealers and sit on all kinds of different motorcycles. Even if you don’t think you’d like the ride when you look at it. I was dead set on one riding style when I started and ended up buying a different type. You may surprise yourself as well.
Fifth, Good Luck, Have Fun and Stay Safe Out There! I hope you enjoy this site!
