*Possibly* The only one here from Nebraska!

Hey all.

I've made a couple posts on here, but I figured that I should officially introduce myself before I make too many posts, and come across as just another random one-post wonder!

I'm a 21 male from Nebraska, and a senior in college. I am getting my Bachelors of Computer Science, and thinking (though not very strongly) of continuing on and getting a Masters. But, we'll have to see where life takes me during my senior year in college.

I just completed my MSF course about 4 weeks ago. Unfortunately, I had a close death in the family, and so I've only been around to ride for about a week since the MSF class. I went out and bought a used (obviously) 1983 Yamaha XV750 Virago (750cc of course). It's great fun, and I'm learning more and more about it each time I ride it. Unfortunately, it does have some issues to it. It has a light hesitation to it at low throttle. So, when starting out, it will start going, but then once it gets up to a bit more RPMs, it starts to bog down pretty hard, and I have to keep rolling on the throttle, and then it will kick back in again. Any ideas as to what could be the cause of that? It confuses me because it idles almost perfect.

I'm not quite sure if I fall into the cager category or not. I believe I could consider myself a "half-cager". 8) I purchased a Sebring Convertible, and have been driving it for a little over a year. The "wind in your hair" bug caught up to me, and I had to have one! Then the bug turned into an epidemic, and I knew that I then had to get a motorcycle! So, this summer I saved my money and got my Virago.

I don't have much for gear yet (I know, I know), but I'm working on it. Money's tight at the moment, and I just had to buy a new alternator for my car, since the old one crapped out. But, the good news is that I saved $100 labor on it by doing it myself, so that's $100 closer to more gear! I've got a cute DOT half-helmet that I bought for the MSF class that I've been scooting around in around town, but I'm planning on getting a modular one here in the near future.

Hmm, what else......oh! I had an interesting motorcycle experience the very first day I got the bike. The previous owner had ridden it to my place so that I could take a look at it / give it a quick test ride. I hopped on and started riding it. I felt pretty confident, and was doing alright. However, I went to do a U-turn to bring it back, and was unaware of the hesitation issue on it. Consequently, I didn't feather the clutch enough to compensate, and, after him telling me earlier that it had never been dumped before, proceeded to kill it in the turn, and dump it, right in front of him. It was one of the most embarrassing things that I think I have ever done before!! So, I basically had no choice but to purchase it from him, lol.

Well, I'll conclude with a few pictures of my two sets of wheels! Thanks, and I'm looking forward to all the reading and fellow input on here!

Hola. I'm from Omaha, but am in college down in Tulsa. Where do you go to school? Did you enjoy the MSF class? I just finished mine last week and I thought it was great.

Awesome bike. Looks like it's in fantastic shape.

You'll definitely want to check out the ViragoTech forums:

Great place to talk about and get help with the Viragos.

For the bogging problem, first thing I'd do is put in new Bosch platinum plugs (Bosch 4037 or 4016 at the local car parts store), run a can of Seafoam through the tank, install a new battery, and make sure you're using only 87 octane fuel.

If that doesn't help, it might be time to adjust the carbs, I think.

If it starts ok you probably don't need a new battery, for sure run some carb cleaner through it and ride it a lot.
