Happy bike day to me!

Hi everyone,

My name is Josh and I'm new the motorcycle world. I took the MSF course about a month ago and just got my bike a couple of days ago. I bought it from a friend for $1700, it's a '76 CB750F, or so he said. After looking at the frame and engine numbers, and consulting http://www.sohc4.net/index.php?title=CB750K it looks like the engine is from a '73 CB750 K3. As you can see in the photobucket pictures the frame number is TFX 201363 so I'm not sure what to make of that.

The bike is in pretty good shape, it runs good, could use a good wash and a tune up but otherwise it was a good deal. I had a friend who is in to bikes ride it and he suggested giving the front brakes a once over. So what should I order brakes for, a '73 K3? The model numbers confuse me since the bike has the alloy wheels and a 4 into 1 exhaust.

Anyway my near future plans are to get a cafe seat off ebay and paint/upholster it. It's partly for the looks, partly for the 1-2" drop so I can flat foot at stops. I'm also going to fix the front brakes and get some new grips, these foam ones suck. Does anyone have any grip recommendations?

Eventually I'll get some clubmans and some shorter cables but thats in the distant future.

Sounds like you got a FrankenHonda. Your going to have to figure out what year each part is or the guy that sold you the bike may know or remove the caliper, remove the pads, go to EBC Brakes web site and find the pad set that fits.
Are any of the numbers on the bike the same as the VIN on the title? As far as I know (KS & MO) the title covers the frame number, the engine number doesn't have to match.

Ya, it looks like what I thought was the frame number is actually the VIN. I'll have to look a little harder to see if I can find the frame number.

A bit o' TLC and the mods you mentioned and it'll be a looker.
Enjoy

I'd also check the tires, if there's any sign of checking, toss 'em and get new rubber as well...

But she is a beaut... 8)
