sv650 reviews

I am looking at buyin a sv650 as my first bike.
Any thought, suggestion etc. I have never rode a bike and am thinking of purchasing this bike after graduation from MSF class.
I thought of the ninja 250 or honda rebel but they seem too small for me I am 6.2" 230 or so.
any advise or other alternative I have not thought of .

This is a pretty good site to check out for beginners. the SV650 is a beautiful bike and I would have made the 2007 my 1st option if I could afford the costs that go with it

I ride an SV650 (naked, not the S version.) Awesome bike, well balanced, just plain fun to ride. It's doable for a first bike BUT it's got more power than the average starter bike, so you need to keep that in mind. Respect the power, make yourself learn good throttle control, and you'll be in luv with yout ride.
There's a terrific group of SV owners at
svrider.com. They're biased towards the SV, of course, but you can get a lot of info there and touch base with others who started out on the SV.

Excellent choice for a well priced and fun bike. The other one to consider is the Ninja 650 (SV naked riding position but with fairing). I would caution against a new bike for a new rider. I picked up a slightly used Ninja 500 for half of what the SV or Ninja 650 go for and I still have my hands full.

I had an SV650 and it is a tourqey bike! It was much faster than the Ninga 500's and the like. It has a mean V-twin that has a great sound to it. I replaced the stock exaust with a carbon fiber "Two Brothers" Slip on and it rocked!
This is a great all around bike as stated above, You really have to baby it as a beginner though. It has alot of torque and wheelies easily.
It is not a bike that just looks like a sport bike, for all intents and purposes it is a sport bike, It just has a more forgiving riding position and more importantly my insurance company classified it as a "standard" Not a sport bike, so my insureance was quite a bit cheaper! That is always a god thing!

It's a good bike. Get it. Replace the pipes if thats your thingl cause it does sound wimpy, and slightly annoying - but then I have earplugs in all the time so the sound doesn't really bother me.
