Depends on what is causing it. One time when I had stopped for a photo op, the strap from the camera case dangled over to the hot pipes. The strap melted a bit onto the pipes. I did not know it at the time. Next few stops I could smell burning. The residue from the melted strap smelled awful. When I got home I waited until the bike cooled and then used some goo-gone type stuff to clean off the melted strap.

Another time, the guys from the sevice department had left some grease or oil on the pipe. Riding home, the smell was awful.

My friend's bike......just installed a trailer hitch. Took me for a ride. We could smell burning rubber. It took awhile of looking around, but he finally saw the reason. With the extra weight of a passenger, the trailer hitch was rubbing against the side of the tire. The tire was getting burnt.

Anyway, what I am trying to say is....have you taken a look to see if there is some kind of residue somewhere that may be the culprit?

Welcome to TMW, by the way. :)
