Hi, I want to know the right steps to getting my motorcycle license I haven't gotten my class 3 license yet because I don't plan on starting off with a car.

#1-Do I need class 3 license to get started with motorcycle?
#2-What do I do after I pass my MSF basic and obtain the certificate?
#3-Are you allowed to hold class 2 & 3 license?
#4-I'm 19 do I need motorcycle permit to take msf?
#5-Is motorcycle permit like cars permit "you have to have it before you do road test or no?
#6- In all where do i go first? lol
If you guys can help me out getting started on How to achieve a motorcycle license the safest and the easiest way it would mean a lot. Plenty of people discourage me on getting motorcycle and they all drive cars idk what their problem is but i don't want to end up like them I would like to start off with a motorcycle I feel that it is the new way to experience the road idk if it just me but i think sitting in a car is just way to boring looking forward to your replys peace!

First of all, what state are you in? This all varies from state to state.

I imagine it's a little different for each state. But for Ohio.

1) You need a learning permit packet. Obtained at the DVM, you must have ID and SS card. $19.
2) You have to take the temp. test for motorcycles. Do this in a DVM testing facility. Free.
3) Sign up for an MSF Basic Rider Course. $25.
4) Take the class, pass written test and skill evaluation test.
5) Take completion card back to DMV to obtain your motorcycle endorsement. You no longer need to take the DMV skill test.

This isn't the only way to do it, but I think it's the easiest/safest/smartest. I hope this helps.

Since a basic riders course generally focuses on the SPECIFICS related to motorcycles and nothing about the basic rules of the road. You'll probably need to get a car license first (or at least pass the written road test).

I'm in hawaii right now so i get mixed information a lot of times, if its just written test i do not mind.

Why not go to your local MVA's website and see what you find?

In MD, it is pretty much impossilbe to get the MC license without having a car license first. The whole program is set up with the focus on automobile licensing. My guess is it is the same in Hawaii.

Yeah, I was going to do the same thing. But I found out here in California you need your class C license first... So I just have my permit for both right now, waiting to borrow a car to go take the test in so I can get my full MC license.

I know in Florida it's essentially the same. You have to have a car license before you can get your motorcycle endorsement. I imagine in Hawaii it would be similar to you have to have your car learners for a a year before you can get your car license and then you can take the MSF and get your motorcycle license.

I was trying to find the online information for you but, I found this statement on the HI.gov site:

Hawaii does not have a statewide Department of Driver Licensing. Driver licensing is managed by each county government.

thank you for your effort helping me appreciate it I was able to talk to a harley guy yesterday found out that I don't need class 3 license for hawaii that took off a lot of weight off my shoulders. they told me all i needed was motorcycle permit then take msf after i pass and get the certificate wait 3 days for my papers then head back to DMV show the paper and my permit then I can get my license. . . . wow that was really simple if i only knew it sooner, now long as i don't get into a fight with those people at the dmv lol wish me luck on the pass for msf hehe thanks again peace~
