How do you test a Low Fuel Sensor when it is not on a bike?

I have a 84 Honda VT700C Shadow and it seems my low fuel sensor has died. I have found someone thru EBay that has one to sell but, it is off the bike and he is asking for ideas on how to test it. If anybody knows please let me know.
