I've been toying with the idea of a second bike and I'm kinda at a crossroads with the type of bike i want. I ride a ninja 500 and I think an upgrade to a 600-650 is a likely choice.

However is there a huge difference between say a Ninja zx-6r and a Ninja 650r? Will the 6R feel like it yanks you forward if you twist the throttle too much? And if that's the case is the 650R even worse because of the bigger engine?

the 650R is a v-twin that puts out about 65 HP at the rear wheel, the 600r is an inline 4 that puts out about 110 HP at the rear wheel. They are completely different types of bikes.

Rule of thumb:


If its got USD (inverted) forks, its a beast.

And if you have to ask, then 'no'.

And if you don't care, then, go ahead, and enjoy!

I have a 02 Yamaha r6, carbed not fuel injected. And yes it yanks you back if you open up the throttle. But I'm sure even non-sportbike type motorcycles do that. I've never ripped it wide open but came close a few times, the speed will make your stomach squirm. Its all preference I guess. You can accelerate slow on any bike, some just enjoy going faster than others You should try out one first though, its intimidating in the beginning. I still get into trouble sometimes when its just starting to rain or I ride past my experience level.

Very different bikes and riding position. The Ninja 650 is very comfortable and upright. The ninja has a much more hunched over riding position. The latter is much sportier. The former is probably better for commuting and touring. If you are fairly new to bikes, I think the Ninja 650 is a much better choice and it also got very good reviews, same level as the suzuki sv650. Both are plenty fast.

actually, 650r is parallel twin. But yeah, ZX-6R (inline-4) has almost twice as much power.

EX650 will be proportionally more powerful than EX500 (same type of engine). ZX-6r will be a huge jump.

I can see that the 650r is not that big of a jump but since I'm a commuter that seems like the best option. And i do intend on riding with my wife as a passenger....when i get a better at riding that is.

if you want a sportier bike with that goody good insurance, take a peek at the Kawasaki ZZR600, 95HP stock and considered "sport touring" so insurance won't be that bad ............might be my next bike
