Driveshaft noise

Hi everyone, i'm new to this forum and I have a question/problem I hope you can help with. I have a very nice 1982 Honda GL500 Interstate with 7500 miles on it. The other day while riding, I noticed a rough vibration and growling by my right foot peg. The only thing there is a boot that covers the front of the driveshaft and if you peel the boot back a little you can see part of what looks like a u-joint so I am guessing this is what is making this awful noise. Is there an easy way to service/replace the u-joint, or is this something I should let the dealer deal with? Thanx in advance for any help!!

Haven't got a clue,

But post it in motorcycle maintenance - you've a better chance of a response.

Because of the age of the bike what your most likely hearing is 1. the U joint and 2. the splines binding on the shaft, neither one is good, to get a better idea go to http://www.mrcycles.com, on the left is there micro fich listing, click on that and enter the required info, this will show you all the parts involved and give you a better idea as to what's involved in taking it apart, don't wait to find out or it could get quite expensive.
