Perhaps I missed it, but is there a glossary associated to this site some where, one that can be modified, to an extent, by all.
I have been riding for a while now, and some of the terminology used by people in these forums, really eludes me. Like a squid! I have read that several times, in various places on here, yet I have no idea what that means, and I couldn’t tell by the surrounding words either!
Just think it might be easier if there were a place to store and update all these words. As we all use different “Ebonics” from different parts of the world.

That's a neat Idea!

Squid is a person who rides without due care....safety gear....is loud etc etc. Someone summed it up perfectly here, but I'm not sure if that Post is still here on the Forum.

I'm sure someone will explain it better for you.

I believe squid comes from squirrel (an animal that only cares about it's nuts) and kid.

Hence a testosterone fueled kid, who absolutely must buy more bike than they can handle, and have no money left to spend on safety gear (no flip-flops don't count as safety gear)

Also there's a site called Total Motorcycle which happens to have a bikers dictionary...

I always thought a squid was a full face helmet surrounded by lots of loose and flapping clothing (Squid head + tentacles?)

As I heard it, the term came from back in the early 50's when young kids were cutting their teeth on bikes. Long time riders called them "squirrely kids", referring to their erratic and unpredicatable movements caused by their inexperience. Eventually the term was shortened to "squids".

That's exactly it. I don't know when the term first came into use, but I was a squid in the mid 70s.
