1983 Honda Shadow VT750C

#1 Unread post by markspike »

Hello, everyone (or at least those of you who wish to help me...)!

I have just purchased said bike - it's kind of rough, but I have always liked this bike. My problem is that while the mileage is low for it's age (13,000 MI), it's in rough shape, appearance-wise. Most of the chrome (exhaust, mainly) is junk; the aluminum is pitted but can be brought back to life. It is also missing the choke cable bracket that holds the carb cables to the lever cable (i think it goes in front of the tank, right side facing forward). So....my questions:

1) Any other owners out there of this model/year know what the duece I am talking about (choke issue) and can you offer advice?

2) Any good/recommended after-market exhaust systems that won't be over-bearingly loud?

3) Can anyone recommend a good website/boneyard for parts for this model?

I am located in Cleveland, OH - any assistance you can provide is appreciated!

Hey and welcome to the forum. I had a '86 Honda Rebel 450 and I rebuilt it getting all my parts from Bikebandit.com, GREAT site to order from. Second, please get a good manual for the bike and start there. Just throwing some stuff out there, good luck

Thanks for the tip! Have tried bikebandit and many of the parts I'm looking for have been discontinued...as for the manual, I have a Clymer - are there better ones available???

The parts that have been discontinued I usually found on ebay or at the salvage yard (lots of good stuff there). The Clymer manual would do, but it would be even better if you could get a direct manual from Honda for that. model/year, I got one for my Rebel and helped a lot more, but was more expensive. Good luck!

markspike, I got the same bike back in August. I've been riding it f since last month. I was able to find a download-able factory service manual in PDF format on the hondashadow.net forum (in case you need one :)). But yeah, there is very little market for our old bikes. If you search enough you can find some goodies on eBay (crash bars, highway pegs, etc). As for the exhaust, there is a slip on system (I forgot who makes it) and there is a complete replacement MAC exhaust system (offered into two staggered styles; slash cut or tapered end pipes). My bike came with a tapered MAC exhaust, which sounds cool to me, but it seems a bit loud at times (more so at night). However it's not all that bothersome with my helmet on. There is some good info on our old bikes on the forum I previously mentioned.

oh yeah, if you need factory replacement parts watch ebay or check out bikebandit.com or mrcycles.com.

Good Luck! Hope you enjoy your bike as much as I am!
