Hi All,

Well last night while I was riding around I think I became a little "Over-Enthusiastic". I've been really kind to my New Ninja 250, I've kept it under 4k RPMs for about 200 miles now and last night I just wanted to feel the thrill of acceleration. So I did a quick burst of speed in second gear, I think I got the RPMs up to about 10,000.

When I got to the next intersection I noticed some smoke coming up from the bike. I looked around and I couldn't find the source, I pulled it into a parking spot around the corner and the smoke was gone.

Does anyone know what that smoke could've been?

I rode around today and didn't notice the same problem at all.

Either a slight exhaust leak, or you're burning some oil off the engine. Either way, don't worry too much.

If this is a new bike it is unlikely that you have oil on the engine. An exhaust leak does not make the bike smoke. A new bike that has never been reved will get hot when you first put the spurs to it. Don't rev it over the red line and don't worry about it.

A new engine can have an oil leak esp if it wasnt put together right from the factory/dealer. Isnt there also a certain amount of time or miles it "may" leak past the seals until they "harden"? Or is it something else im thinking of?

Typically bikes are shipped from factory with a small amount of oil on "iron" parts. This is to prevent rust and corrosion while they are stored. I said NOTHING about an oil leak, only that there may be some oil on the engine. The fact that the problem did not reoccur is indicative of the fact that there was something somewhere that could be burnt off.

Other possible suspects are the mechanic was a little sloppy while topping up the oil or coolant and spilled a little that burned off later.

And an exhaust leak will cause smoke, but you're right it's unlikely to have an exhaust leak on a new bike.

The OP said the bike had 200 kms on it. Enuf time that anything not leaked would be burned off.
