1500vulcan classic, how many mpgs? big reserve?

#1 Unread post by zuke »

i was riding today, the gas guage said empty, but figured the mileage was the way to go...

the mileage said 115 miles, then bam, sputtering...

i knew the feeling, so i immediately reached for my fuel petkok...

turned it to reserve, then nothing...

tried to start it once i rolled to a stop, but nothing...

i switched back to "on" fuel poss, and leaned the bike to the left in the hopes of finding some hidden fuel...

IT WORKED... i got about 2 miles, then it stalled!

i shouldve stayed in the origional stall spot, atleast that was on the side of the road, now i was in the middle of a busy road a measly mile from the gas station... a friend showed up minutes later with gas to the rescue!

my question is...

how big is my reserve? how many gallons should i be able to hold? how many mpg should i get...

o, and when i fill up is there anything i am supposed to do to make sure my reserve has gas?

thanks.
later

Your reserve just runs from a different intake in the same tank.

Check your manual for the size of your reserve.

The tower in your tank that makes a reserve is not working.

In other words, the fuel line is clogged on that "branch".

Ran out of gas while doing 80 on the freeway. Learned that I should not forget to leave the tank set on reserve. :x

No more typically the tower fell over inside the tank.

if the tower did fall over, how do i fix it? is it something i can fix?

and if the "tower" fell over is that enough to steel 1 gallon from me?

i should have a 4 gallon tank, but i keep only getting 3 gallons in... i thought i was supposed to have a one gal reserve... so i have one gallon that keeps hiding from me!

thanks
zuke

ill go to oem parts and look at a schematic and see what your talking about, cuz its new to me...

thanks again

See the tubes that extend up from your petcock. It sounds like yours is blocked at the reserve point. I didn't understand that you are not getting that extra gallon. If you pull that whole petcock out of you tank and do a through cleaning making sure that all flows as it should you should find that extra gallon. I hope that this is making sense to you.

I bow to your superior wisdom.
I've never heard of one falling over. I guess you learn something new every day.
