The BMW 800GS

#1 Unread post by BrianinFrance »

Yes, it does exist AND it is at the Paris motorcycle show. However it is 'under wraps' and is only on show to dealers and they are forbidden to take photographs; my dealer in Lyon had a good look at it a couple of days ago and he is sure it is the bike for me - to replace my 1200GS when I am ready to change for a lighter bike. It should be available in the Spring they say!

The new GS

It will be a variation on the F800S/ST models with the vertical twin engine. I do not think that they will fit a belt drive which is a great pity but not considered suitable for off road. Will I, after 30 years, go back to a chain, it will have to be something special!

So it's not really a BMW but an Alpinera in drag. Would like to see a good GS built again like the old GS80 from the 80s much more desirable than the later GS80 Basic. So sad to see the Italian designs so much!

Just maybe it's a Huskey with BMW rondels!
