Hey guys, im new to motorcycling and even newer to buying used ones. I've been looking for a particular model, the 83/84/85 Honda CX 650 Es. i found a used one and i have no idea what to look for that will tell me to get it or to stay away from it. can i have some tips about buying this particular model used. i guess on that side of the water you had them around a little longer than we did. 83 is it for the US.

Usual problems as any bike however -

Hondas achilles heel is the regulator/rectifier - but its not difficult to get to and is a cheap aprt to replace.

We had problems without CX500 because it'd done too few miles. When we got it it was firing on one cylander and periodically firing on the second - terrifying deep in the corner. Two rebuilds of the carbs, professionally done as it is a pain in the neck, got thast sorted and it was running fine until the rear (trike) wiring failed.

Are you planning on taking an MSF course? If not I'd recommend doing it it's a great way to learn how to ride and learn some great techniques.

Also can I ask what attracted you to a cruiser type? I'm interested because most of my geeky friends all seem to like sport bikes and considering your using the h4x0r speak in your name I figure you're probably somewhat of a geek too.

i bought and learned how to ride a motorcycle last summer during my vacation home to China. believe it or not, together for the bike(some chinses made 400cc) and repairs done on it costed under 100 dollars(theres no such things as lisence or insurance to pay !!!!!

but i guess things here are a lot more complicated and expansive... im in canada now and i think i will take one of thoses motorcycle cources cuz i herd it reduced ur insurance.
