Hello!

I have heard a lot of great things about the Ninja 250, but I have had trouble finding out an important thing - how loud are they to passerby? I am not interested in a wake-the-neighbors bike, I'd like to come and go at all hours without worrying about awakening/aggravating anyone within hearing range.

What have your experiences been?

They're pretty quiet.

taking it easy in a residential area its very quiet. If you accelerate hard and get up in the 8-12k rpm range its gets a bit louder, but not obnoxiously so. If i have my yamaha xj600s and the kawi ex250 idling at the same time I can even hear the ninja.

Almost any bike is fine out of the box. It's when someone adds an aftermarket exhaust (full system or slip-on) that noise can become a problem

The 250 is the apprentice ninja, who overcompensates by screaming HiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiYAH! Everytime he performs an attack.

But seriously I have a ninja 250 and it's pretty quiet, it barks a bit at the 8k+ range but it's not like your waking up half the neighborhood with some after market pipes.

I feel your concern because I want to upgrade my bike and I'll probably buy used but pretty much EVERY USED BIKE has some kind of "OMG IT's SO LOUD" system on it which I don't really want.

If I have to choose between being loud or being quiet I'd rather be loud. I just wish someone made a system where after like 8k RPMs the bike would scream but below 8k it'd be quiet.

I saw a car exhaust system like that on top speed, I think it was an italian sports car, very interesting concept.
