New to Motorcycling

Hello everyone, I am very much a newbie to the world of motorcycling. I rode years ago and owned a couple of basket case project bikes. My wife and I have talked for years about buying a motorcycle. Well we took the plunge about a month ago. We bought a new Honda ST1300. I know it is a lot of bike and many will chide me for buying that big and a new bike to boot. I did my research and talked with some friends that have been riding for several years. They consistantly told me if I bought a smaller bike it wouldn't be long until I wanted a bigger bike. They suggested I go ahead and buy one big enough to keep for a while. We plan on doing some touring on the bike. We live in the Texas Hill Country and there are some great roads to ride close to home. So we went for a sport touring model. I went through the MSF Basic Rider Course and have gone down to get my motorcycle license. So far I have put 54 miles on the bike. We live out in the country with very little traffic so my practice area has few distractions. I am reading the book Proficent Motorcycling and am about half way through it. I always wear jeans, boots, gloves, full face helmet, and a motorcycle jacket (joe rocket with the shoulder, back and elbow pads). I look forward to learning more about motorcycling.
